Honorarium Amount: $15,000 pending Qualifications and Experience

About NLSA:

The Newfoundland & Labrador Soccer Association (NLSA) is the governing body for soccer in the province of Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada. NLSA is committed to promoting and developing the sport of soccer by providing a structured platform for competition and ensuring the highest standards of officiating. We aim to nurture and improve soccer referees who play a vital role in the integrity and success of the sport at all levels.

Position Summary:

NLSA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Soccer Referee Development Officer to lead our efforts in nurturing, training, and enhancing the skills of soccer referees. The Referee Development Officer will be responsible for overseeing the education and development of referees within the NLSA system, ensuring the highest standards of officiating are maintained and developed.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Referee Development Programs:
    1. Develop, implement, and manage referee development programs designed to recruit, train, and retain referees across all levels.
    2. Collaborate with local associations, clubs, and academies to identify and support individuals interested in becoming referees.
  2. Training and Education:
    1. Create and deliver training sessions, workshops, and courses to enhance the knowledge and skills of referees.
    2. Stay updated on the latest soccer rules, regulations, and best practices and share this knowledge with referees.
  3. Mentorship and Evaluation:
    1. Provide mentorship and support to referees to help them improve their performance.
    2. Conduct regular evaluations and feedback sessions for referees to identify areas for improvement.
  4. Recruitment:
    1. Work closely with local associations and schools to identify potential new referees and encourage their participation in referee programs.
  5. Compliance and Administration:
    1. Ensure referees meet all licensing and certification requirements as set forth by NLSA and relevant governing bodies.
    2. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to referee development.
  6. Networking:
    1. Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national soccer organizations, fostering collaboration and the exchange of best practices.
  7. Research and Innovation:
    1. Stay informed about the latest developments in soccer officiating and implement innovative methods to enhance the quality of referees.

 

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a soccer referee.
  • Valid referee certification from a recognized governing body recognized by Canada Soccer.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Teaching or coaching experience is an advantage.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of soccer rules and regulations.
  • Passion for promoting and developing soccer officiating
  • Certification that allows for the education or evaluation of referees would be an asset.
