Doug Redmond Named Honorary Life Member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association
In recognition of his contributions at the local, provincial, and national level, The Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association (NLSA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Doug Redmond as an Honorary Life Member of the NLSA.
Doug has been active at the local and provincial levels for more than 40 years, and is perhaps best known as NLSA President, a role he recently stepped down from after twenty years.
Doug served the NLSA in many roles including as NLSA Secretary and Challenge Cup Commissioner and spearheaded many initiatives that helped advance the organization’s technical competency and finances.
Additionally, he served as Head of Delegation on two occasions for Canada Soccer at international events. In 2014 he was appointed as Head of Delegation for FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup and he was on the organizing committee for both the Women FIFA U 20 World Cup and the Womens World Cup in 2014 and 2015.
He also served as Head of Delegation for Canada at international soccer tournaments at Ballymena, Northern Ireland and in Guatemala.
Doug’s work has been recognized within and outside the NLSA, where he was named NLSA Volunteer of the Year, NLSA Executive of the Year on three occasions, Sport NL Executive of the year twice, and received an Award of Merit from Canada Soccer.
He is also a member of the Sport NL Hall of Fame, NLSA Hall of Fame, and St. John’s Soccer Hall of Fame.
Doug will be officially recognized in a ceremony at King George V Park in St. John’s on Sunday, August 7.
