NLSA Names Senior Players of the Month for July 2023
Senior Male
Jacob Grant - Holy Cross Crusaders
Starting all eight games that featured Holy Cross in the month of July, Jacob Grant notched seven goals with multiple assists, playing an integral role in keeping the Crusaders undefeated in as many games. Grant’s goal-scoring prowess and creativity in the attacking third contributed greatly to propelling Holy Cross to the top of the Johnson Insurance Challenge Cup table and securing first place in the 2023 regular season. As of the end of July he led league scoring with 16 goals in 16 games.
Jacob returns to NL Challenge Cup play in 2023 after having spent the 2022 summer season competing in League1 Ontario for the Simcoe County Rovers FC. Grant is also co-captain for the Memorial Seahawks, entering his 4th year with the program this fall.
Senior Female (tie)
Outstanding performances by defender Jamie King of Feildians and striker Jane Pope of Holy Cross Nutraholdings led to a tie amongst senior women for July’s Player of the Month honours.
Jane Pope - Holy Cross Nutraholdings
Jane Pope helped lead Holy Cross to a first-place finish in league play this year. Jane was a constant threat to any opponent that Holy Cross faced in July, as she continues to assist her teammates and scores goals herself. As a result of her performances, Jane finished the season as the league's Golden Boot winner with 17 goals and continues to be an integral part of the Holy Cross team.
Jamie King - Feildians
Jamie plays a fullback position and has been an incredible presence, both defensively and offensively, this season. Defensively she has helped the Double Blues to have the lowest goals against this season. Jamie has also contributed greatly with both goals and assists in important games. Jamie is an extremely hard worker — she runs an average of 10-12 kilometres per game and always ‘shows up’ for training and practice. Jamie is a leader and presence on the field — she’s always encouraging her teammates and recognizing their successes on the field and rallying the team when they need it.
